Paleo Diet

I’ve been reading up lately about the Paleo diet. Basically it’s not a diet but its going back to a way of eating that would have been around before agriculture, processed food, sugar, lollies etc

It sounds really good – and quite plausible – so I’ve decided to give it a go to see how I feel. Basically what the Doctor that wrote the book that I read says is that before the last 10,000 years – and for a period of 2.5 million years humans ate a lot differently than they did today. Their diet wasn’t full of rubbish like pizza, pasta, bread, coke, chips, mashed potatoes, cakes, cookies,  fruit juice, pastries etc that as humans today we eat as common place foods – infact many people guzzle down these foods and drinks like there is no tomorrow. The mixture of fats and sugars, artificial flavours, and corn syrup etc makes the food particularly tasty and makes it so that when you start eating you don’t want to stop. Also the water that people would have had back in those times would have been fresh and clean rain water – not water polluted with fluoride and chlorine and who knows what else. So in today’s society there are a lot of people with weight issues hating their lives cause they have a fat bum but not being able to control what they eat.

So anyway the way the Paleo Diet means that you no longer eat any of that crap. Instead you eat what your ancestors from many years ago probably ate – Fresh Vegetables, fresh fruits, fish, shellfish, meat, seeds, nuts, and a little bit of good fat. Bearing in mind that the food your ancestors ate years ago (like over 10,000 years ago) won’t have been sprayed with poisonous chemicals like all our food is today the best idea is to try to get organic foods of the ones mentioned above.

Back in those days there was no such thing as farming – feeding up fat animals by giving them corn and other grains to eat. The animals that they hunted and ate lived wildly and ate grass – apart from the larger animals that would have eaten smaller animals that had eaten grass.

The thing with feeding animals grains is that you can fatten them up fast by feeding them grain. Infact you can fatten up anyone fast by feeding them grain – hence why there is so many fat people in the world now due to all the grain and grain fed animals we eat.

Apart from losing fat by eating this more natural diet that is suited to our DNA (which hasn’t really changed at all from all those years ago) there is also a lot more to be gained. Thousands of years ago, before the agricultural age people didn’t suffer from ill health, diseases and sickness like they do today. No one had diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma, or any of the other very common illnesses that people suffer from today. Is it just a co-incidence? No I don’t think so.

Beauty – Is it skin deep?

The old saying Beauty is only skin deep – is it true?

I think it’s origins are correct in a way, as it is saying that just because someone is beautiful on the outside doesn’t mean that they are beautiful on the inside. Fair enough – and true in lots of cases.

But if we look at it another way may be the saying is telling people that beauty is on the outside – this gives the impression that to stay beautiful, or make yourself beautiful you would just need to pay attention to the outside. This is wrong on two levels:

One: Poople can be beautiful people with out looking conventially beautiful. Infact people can be beautiful people but look ugly on the outside. A person can be beautiful because they have a beautiful personality or they treat people really nicely or many of those things.

Two: Beauty if we are talking about conventional beauty – would probably mean to most people clear health skin, clear healthy eyes, nice white teeth, healthy glow to your skin, free of bodily nasties like warts and acne etc. But to get the good skin, the clear eyes etc you can’t just apply creams and potions and lotions and elixers to your skin! This is where beauty is definately not skin deep – you will have a much better effect on your skin, hair, nails and all the other things that will make you more beautiful if you concentrate on looking what you put IN your body.

If you eat crap and junkfood all day and night and wash it down with some fizzy drink do you think you will look beautiful for long? The answer to that is no. You need to eat fresh vegetables and fruit, drink lots of fresh, clean water, get a moderate amount of sun and excercise, get a good nights sleep and think poitively about your life.

The reason for the positive thinking is not only so you don’t end up with frown lines, it;s also because happy people look and feel better about themselves – and the happy, confident people look the most beautiful
